Mazywood

From the Bram Stoker, World Fantasy, and Los Angeles Times Book Prize-winning author Tananarive Due comes Mazywood, a gripping supernatural horror and family saga. This novel delves into the legacy of wishes made generations ago, set against the backdrop of 1920s Hollywood and the haunting Florida wilderness.

The story follows Mazelle Washington, a child star in 1926 Gracetown, Florida, who seeks out the Wishing Pool to make a wish for a better life and a best friend. Her wish seemingly comes true with the appearance of Scout the Wonder Dog, propelling her and her family out of poverty and into stardom. Decades later, Mazelle’s grandson, Johnny Washington, a screenwriter facing career challenges, inherits Mazywood, a remote family retreat. He brings his wife and daughters to the estate, unaware of the dark legacy hidden within the surrounding forest—a legacy of pain, sorrow, and family strife fueled by racism.

As Johnny's family uncovers Mazelle’s lost history, a terrifying creature begins to stalk the woods. They find themselves in a desperate fight for survival, confronting not only the monstrous threat but also the chilling echoes of their family’s past.
