Description
One World is a John Martyn album on 180g vinyl, suited to listeners drawn to atmospheric, genre-blending music. This reissue reproduces the original Island UK pressing, including the lyric inner sleeve, and uses the original UK mix.
Released in 1977, the album marked a pivotal point in Martyn’s development from folk-based singer-songwriter to sonic innovator. Its sound blends folk, jazz, rock, dub and ambient influences, with natural ambience captured during recording at Woolwich Green Farm.
Standout tracks include the reggae-inflected “Big Muff”, the hypnotic “Smiling Stranger”, the tender “Couldn’t Love You More” and the expansive “Small Hours”, featuring Martyn’s Echoplex guitar effects. Steve Winwood, Danny Thompson and Rico Rodriguez contribute to the album’s textured arrangements.
