André-Ernest-Modeste Grétry - L'Amant Jaloux [CD]

This CD recording presents Grétry’s French opéra-comique L’Amant jaloux, performed by the Arion Baroque Orchestra under Mathieu Lussier. It brings together humour, tenderness and dramatic tension in a work first performed at Versailles in 1778.

Grétry’s agile orchestration follows the flow of the text, bringing the characters and their misunderstandings to life. The opera explores jealousy, pretence and arranged marriage, and was performed more than 150 times after its premiere before remaining in the repertoire until the mid-19th century.
