Description
John Coltrane’s Plays The Blues is a jazz album built around six tunes based on the blues, presented here as a limited blue vinyl edition. This release includes the complete LP plus two bonus tracks on 180g vinyl.
Recorded in 1960, the album has a bluesy sensibility without relying on conventional blues tunes. ‘Blues for Bechet’ pays tribute to Sidney Bechet, while ‘Blues to Bechet’ and ‘Blues to You’ feature the quartet as a trio, with pianist McCoy Tyner sitting out.
The edition includes specially prepared liner notes by Brian Morton, writer for the Penguin Guide to Jazz.
