North York Skies

The Ben Crosland Quintet presents North York Skies, an evocative collection of twelve original jazz compositions deeply inspired by the landscapes, stories, and communities of the North York Moors. This album is a heartfelt tribute to the beauty, history, and folklore of one of Britain's most treasured regions.

The recording features an exceptional quintet, showcasing years of collaborative understanding: Ben Crosland on electric bass, Steve Waterman on trumpet, Steve Lodder on piano, Chris Allard on guitar, and Nic France on drums. The music vividly captures the essence of the Moors, from the breathtaking scale of the title track to the rolling hills of 'Howardian Undulations'.

Further inspiration is drawn from the North York Moors Railway, the RAF Fylingdales early warning station, and local folklore surrounding landmarks like Lilla Howe and Ain Howe. The album also pays homage to the region's musical heritage with 'The Blakey Lions', a nod to the pioneering jazz-rock trio Back Door.

Artist's Vision: Ben Crosland describes the album as 'a love letter to the North York Moors,' reflecting his personal connections and deep appreciation for the area.
