Description
Miles Davis’s soundtrack for Louis Malle’s film Ascenseur pour l'échafaud is presented on orange 180g vinyl, with a bonus track. It’s a soundtrack album for listeners drawn to atmospheric jazz and Davis’s trumpet.
The film’s original music features Davis with Barney Wilen, René Urtreger, Pierre Michelot and Kenny Clarke, recorded in Paris in December 1957. The album also includes a Miles Davis Sextet session recorded in New York in May 1958, with John Coltrane, Julian “Cannonball” Adderley, Bill Evans, Paul Chambers and Jimmy Cobb.
Known for its spare, nocturnal mood, the soundtrack includes “Generique”, whose dark, luminous sound is closely associated with Jeanne Moreau’s night-time wander through Paris. This edition includes newly prepared liner notes by Brian Morton and Jazz Magazine.
