Description
Bobby Williams' 1974 deep-funk album Funky Super Fly is a reissue for fans of raw funk and soul, including listeners drawn to the sound of James Brown. Its grooves combine fiery horns, strutting guitars and infectious basslines.
Vocalist and bandleader Williams brings a distinctive energy to a set that became a favourite among funk aficionados. The title track was sampled by DJ Shadow for ‘The Number Song’, while ‘Soul Brother Party’ was sampled by Coldcut for ‘More Beats & Pieces’.
Standouts include ‘Funky Superfly’, ‘Soul Brother Party’ and ‘Let's Jam’, alongside the soul ballad ‘Morning Of Love’ and the wah-wah guitar-led instrumental ‘Fair Trade’.
