Shabazz Palaces - It’s A Style Sport [CD]

It’s A Style Sport is a CD album by Shabazz Palaces, the project of musician, producer and rapper Ishmael Butler. It brings together experimental hip-hop and free-form poetry with a more reflective, upfront perspective.

Butler draws on his career as a rapper and performer, setting that past against his contemporary persona in an ode to the playful competition of earlier rap. The album pairs daring expression with a shimmering, playful approach.

Made with members of Butler’s touring band, the album features upright and electric bass, guitar, keyboards, vocals, drums and saxophone. Longtime collaborator Erik Blood contributed instrumentation, production and mixing.
